Enhancing Family Success Workers (EFS)

At the Respect Collaboration of Schools we are passionate about enhancing opportunities for our pupils and families. EFS workers across schools work within our pastoral teams and are committed to improving pupil participation and engagement.

Attendance

The main focus of their role is to work collaboratively with pupils and their families to increase pupil attendance and punctuality and reduce school absence by offering the following support:

  • Liaise with pupils and parents regarding their child’s attendance to provide advice and practical support
  • Support parents and pupils in understanding the benefits of regular school attendance.
  • Support pupils to independently travel to and from school
  • To complete home visits to ascertain the whereabouts of a pupil if they have not arrived in school, where there are potential safeguarding or safety risks.
  • To support new pupils transitioning into the school.
  • Liaise with external agencies where attendance is a concern

Family support

Working with parents and carers is essential to improve the learning and wellbeing of our pupils. Parental involvement improves pupil engagement, wellbeing and outcomes. Our EFS workers provide a range of family support, which includes

  • Providing advice and practical support for families to improve dynamics and relationships
  • Sign posting families to agencies and organisations for specific support packages
  • Delivering positive parenting support
  • Signposting families to community resources for example food banks
  • Offering advice, guidance and support regarding pupils’ post 16 options and destinations

Junction 16

Alternative Provision (AP) is at the heart of Respect Collaboration of Schools. We recognise and embrace the fact that not all children are suited to mainstream education pathways. Yet we certainly want them to have the same opportunities and expectations to achieve in whatever they excel in.

Junction 16 (J16) is a quality assurance and commissioning service that ensures all alternative provision offered by, and through, Respect Collaboration of Schools is of the highest standards in alternative provision. J16 act on behalf of our own schools and those of Derby City and beyond. We commission services in alternative provision every year so that contractually, there are assurances in the educational value of timetabled provision for all children. This is all carried out via a dynamic purchasing system (DPS) that is jointly managed by the local authority procurement department.

We enter in to partnership with schools who buy into our services and pride ourselves in effective working practices. Our team comprises of a Director of AP and Commissioning, a senior Alternative Provision Officer, two Alternative Provision Officers and an administrator. Together we support and facilitate the needs of many requests for AP spanning through the key stages 1-4 (please visit Our Website for more information on the range of Alternative Provision Courses available this academic year).

Everything we do is Ofsted compliant and within the AP guidance for Alternative Provision. We are proud to be able to offer our own Junction 16 Alternative Provisions in Outdoor Education, Hair and Beauty and Construction with future courses in motor vehicle on the horizon.

Whether you are another school, parent, carer, student or other organisation, we welcome your enquiries into what we do as without regular and current interest/feedback, we would not be able to offer the services described above in the way that serves our students best.

SEMH and Inclusion

Everyone who works in education and/or with children and young people is very aware of the increasing need for awareness, support and interventions relating to pupils’ social, emotion and mental health (SEMH).

The presentation of behaviours and communication relating to pupils’ responses to their experience of school and SEMH is having a direct impact on the work of schools and their staff. Professionals are needing to perceive, interpret and react in different ways to get both expected and desired results.

Derby City Council and The Respect Collaboration of Schools has worked collaboratively with school leaders and influencers in Derby to create a vision for “City of Experts” that can anticipate and be pro-active in the support of every pupil’s SEMH.

The SEMH and Inclusion Advisory service is tasked with connecting with schools. The service will work closely with engaged schools individually to provide advice, guidance and training that the staff want and need to feel confident when working with pupils. This may include advice and support on school policy, systems and processes in order to create SEMH informed and accepting environments that will proactively increase the probability of engagement and success for all pupils.
